Well Kyler, baseball players where hats to keep the sun out of their eyes, it helps them to see the ball better. Also, the managers needed something to throw at the dirt, when a bad call is made.

Apparently, the first ones were worn by the New York Knickerbockers (not the Knicks of the NBA). The game of Baseball as we know it was invented by Alexander Cartwright in 1845 of the New York Knickerbocker baseball club. That team was the first to wear ball caps, that were made of straw. In 1860 the Brooklyn Excelsiors changed the shape of the cap, and created the first hat with a bill.
According to Wikipedia:"Traditionally, the bill is worn forward, shielding the eyes from the sun" (good job me). As you can tell baseball caps have come a long way. They were and are a great way to "sell" your team to the fans. The fanatics could wear hats that matched their teams logo and colors. Okay, so the fan on the right is not wearing a hat, but I am pretty sure the Yankees don't want him as a fan.
